This concert pairs Haydn’s classical era masterpiece (originally subtitled Missa in Angustiis - “Mass for Troubled Times”, in reference to the instability of the world due to Napoleon’s expanded military campaigns into Austria and Egypt) with a work by Massachusetts-based composer Caroline Shaw (the youngest recipient of the Pulitzer Prize in Music) which focuses on “the suffering of those around the world seeking refuge, and of our role and responsibility in these global and local crises.”

This concert brings together Syrian-born composer Kareem Roustom and London-born composer Tarik O’Regan-- two contemporary America-based composers-- with English master and Chorus of Westerly favorite Ralph Vaughan Williams for a concert that comments on life, death, war, and hope.

Watch The Chorus of Westerly bring music into the heart of the Westerly-Pawcatuck community in its 42nd Summer Pops Concert. This free event includes beloved arrangements of classical masterworks as well as popular music for chorus and full orchestra.
