The Development Assistant will support the Chorus’s development efforts by assisting the deputy executive director and executive director on all fundraising, development, and advancement projects, programs, and events. The coordinator will be primarily responsible for managing the Chorus’s donor database and tracking systems, for gift processing and donor acknowledgements for donations to all of the Chorus’s fundraising campaigns and event programs, and for supporting the deputy director in prospect research for corporate support, foundation grants, capital supporters, and new individual chorus donors. In addition, the development coordinator will serve as a secondary lead, with the deputy director, on most major Chorus fundraising events and the annual gala, as well as assist with other Chorus special projects as needed.  The position is a part-time, hourly position, averaging 8 to 10 hours a week. There will be some weeks, usually around Chorus of Westerly major fundraisers, where additional hours may be offered and/or required. The pay rate for the position is $20 p/h, flat rate. The position is not benefits eligible.

 

The functions, duties, and tasks of the position include, but will not necessarily be limited to:

 

  1. Manage the Chorus donor databases by updating contact information, tracking and logging in new gifts, creating donor reports for the senior staff and bookkeeper, creating donor reports for annual campaigns.

  2. Ensure development collateral is produced and updated and ample quantities are in stock and ready for use as needed.

  3. Support the deputy director in overseeing efforts for the Annual Fund Campaign and the Summer Pops Fund campaigns

  4. Help organize volunteer development support teams for mailings, phone-a-thons, and similar projects.

  5. Support efforts to secure grants for the Chorus from foundation, corporate, governmental, and other private sources through research, data compiling, editing work, writing, and other efforts as requested by deputy executive director.

  6. Research, solicit and help the deputy director and executive director identify new corporate funding sources, both regionally and locally. Assist in the creation of materials for such solicitation.

  7. Manage the program book ad campaign and create volunteer team from the Chorus family to support this effort.

  8. Assist in the planning, management, and execution of all major and minor Chorus special event fundraisers.

  9. Serve, as requested, as auxiliary staff at Chorus of Westerly events and other related duties as need or assigned.

 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience working (or volunteering in a leadership capacity) in the arts sector or the not-for-profit sector or similar sector in special events, annual fund drive, special capital campaigns, or any other fundraising or development capacity. Significant volunteer experience in these areas will be considered.. The ideal candidate should be a confident writer and editor, a good researcher, a thorough program and project manager, and very comfortable with a computer and database systems. The ideal candidate must able to effectively communicate the “story” of the organization. In addition, the ideal candidate should be extremely comfortable interfacing personally, directly, and frequently (including face-to-face, on the phone, electronically) with a wide variety of individuals of different ages and backgrounds. Demonstrated leadership experience is also highly desired.
