GEK_kids_seatedNew Child Members

The Chorus of Westerly's first round of new child auditions (for the 2010-11 season) took place in June.  However, we will still be accepting new child members through the early fall. To arrange a time to meet with Mr. Kent and discuss your child singing with the Chorus, parents of prospective children should call the Chorus of Westerly office to arrange a special appointment.  Mr. Kent's availability during the summer is limited, but the office will work to find a time that works for both parties.  If children are interested in joining the Chorus and going to August 2010's Choir Camp, they will need to be heard by Mr. Kent prior to July 21 (and their are no guarantees that can be arranged at this date).  However, if children are not going to camp and wish to sing in the fall, they will find ample times to meet with Mr. Kent in early September.

No musical experience or sight reading is required for children between the ages of 8 and 18 to join the Chorus of Westerly.  The "audition" with Mr. Kent is very relaxed and easy. Mr. Kent will engage the young singer in a few vocal exercises in order to hear the child's tone.  It is also a time for parents to meet with Mr. Kent and discuss the requirements of singers.  Singers must be 8 years old by October 1, 2010 in order to join for this fall.

The children of the Chorus of Westerly sing with the adult members in classical concerts in November and May, Christmas Pops in December, the holiday pageant ‘A Celebration of Twelfth Night’ in January, and Summer Pops in Wilcox Park in June. All child members are also invited to attend choir camp for a week of fun in August, held at Camp Ogontz in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

To make an appointment, please call the Chorus of Westerly at (401) 596-8663 or email Lee Eastbourne at lee@chorusofwesterly.org.
