About the faculty

RICHARD MARLOW is the Emeritus Director of the world-renowned Trinity College Choir in Cambridge, England. He served at Trinity College since 1968, as Fellow and Director of music, and lecturer on the University Music Faculty. Since 1989 he has devoted his time to the College Choir, whose many subsequent broadcasts, recordings and foreign tours have established its reputation internationally. In addition to his choral work and his teaching, Richard Marlow has been active as an editor and has contributed to a number of scholarly journals and books, and has been Visitng Professor at universities in Japan, Texas, New England, and New Zealand. He directs the Portland, Oregon Byrd Festival every August.

FREDA HERSETH has sung numerous operatic roles to critical acclaim throughout Europe, Russia and Israel with LaScala Opera Orchestra and others. She is well known for her performances of new music and has had numerous pieces written for her voice. She is Associate Professor of Voice and Chair of the Voice Department at the University of Michigan. She has presented Master Classes at many universities, including the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Voice Foundation's Annual International Symposium and for the Chorus of Westerly.

GEORGE KENT, founder and Music Director of the Chorus of Westerly, is also a Professor of Music at the University of Rhode Island, Organist/Choirmaster of Christ Church, Westerly, and has recorded and toured internationally with Edward Tarr, trumpet virtuoso.He was formerly Assistant Conductor, and later Acting Music Director, of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra.In 2006, Goerige Kent received the Pell Award fir individual achievement in the arts.
